Licence terms

1. The licence

WebDLNA is copyright © 2026 Rhys Jones (StreamLink) and is licensed to you under the GNU Affero General Public License, version 3.0 ("the AGPL"). The complete text is distributed with the software in the file LICENSE, and is published by the Free Software Foundation at gnu.org/licenses/agpl-3.0.html.

By copying, modifying or distributing WebDLNA you accept the AGPL. If you do not accept it, the copyright law of your country is what governs your use, and it grants you far less.

2. What you may do

• Run it, for any purpose, private or commercial, without paying anyone and without asking permission.
• Read the source and change it to suit you.
• Distribute copies, modified or not, and charge for the service of doing so if you wish.
• Use it as part of a larger work, subject to the licence conditions on that work described in the AGPL.

Merely running the software imposes no obligation on you at all.

3. What you must do in return

The obligations arise when other people receive the software or its output from you.

If you distribute it

• Pass on this same licence, in full, along with the copyright notice.
• Make the corresponding source available to whoever receives it, including your modifications.
• Mark the files you changed, and the date you changed them.

If you run a modified version as a network service

This is the clause that distinguishes the AGPL from the ordinary GPL, and it matters here because WebDLNA is a web application people self-host. Under section 13, if you modify WebDLNA and let others interact with it over a network, whether that is a household, an office or customers, anyone who is not you, you must offer those users the corresponding source of your version, at no charge, through the interface itself.

WebDLNA ships ready to satisfy this: Settings → About carries a Source code link. If you publish a modified build, repoint that link at your own source rather than removing it.

4. Third-party components

WebDLNA is built on open-source libraries. Vue, Naive UI, Pinia, Express, node-ssdp, fast-xml-parser and others each carry their own licence, which continues to apply to that component. Optional integrations reach further still: transcoding invokes ffmpeg if you have installed it, and casting loads Google's Cast SDK. Neither is distributed with WebDLNA, and both are governed by their own terms, which you accept by using those features.

The name WebDLNA and the StreamLink name and logo are not licensed to you by the AGPL. You may say your work is derived from WebDLNA; you may not present it as the official WebDLNA or imply endorsement by StreamLink.

5. No warranty

As stated in sections 15 and 16 of the AGPL, WebDLNA is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. Nobody promises it is fit for a particular purpose, free of defects, or that it will not lose data or interrupt playback. The entire risk of quality and performance is yours, and if it proves defective you bear the cost of any servicing or correction.

To the extent permitted by law, no copyright holder or contributor is liable for any damages arising from the use or inability to use the software, including loss of data or losses sustained by third parties.

Australian Consumer Law. If you are a consumer in Australia, you have statutory guarantees that cannot be excluded. Nothing above excludes, restricts or modifies those rights; where a guarantee applies and liability may lawfully be limited, that liability is limited to re-supplying the software or paying the cost of doing so.

6. Your content and your network

WebDLNA is a client for media servers you already run. It does not supply media, and having a copy of it grants no right to any recording, film or broadcast. You are responsible for holding whatever rights are needed for the material you stream, download or cast with it, and for complying with the law where you are. See the terms of use.
